Şehit Erkan Er Middle School Students Learn About Local Government Firsthand

Fifth-grade students visited Bornova Municipality as part of their Social Studies curriculum, gaining firsthand insight into how local governments operate. Welcomed by Mayor Ömer Eşki, the students toured the Smart City and Innovation Center, where they learned about Bornova’s digital twin and municipal operations.

Students from Şehit Erkan Er Middle School in EVKA-3 visited Bornova Municipality to explore local governance, municipal services, urban management, and technology-driven projects. The visit provided both an educational and enjoyable experience.

Mayor Eşki Welcomes Students Personally

Mayor Ömer Eşki greeted the students at the entrance of the municipal building and spent time answering their questions about city life and municipal services.

Highlighting the importance of introducing local government processes at an early age, Eşki said:

"It is extremely valuable for children to learn about the city they live in and understand how municipalities operate. Tomorrow’s informed citizens will emerge from today’s curious children. We want to raise generations that will continue to develop Bornova together."

Bornova’s Digital Twin Draws Great Interest

As part of the visit, students toured the Smart City and Innovation Center, where Bornova Municipality’s technology and innovation initiatives are coordinated.

Mayor Eşki introduced the municipality’s digital twin system, explaining how the city is digitally modeled to enable more efficient and effective service delivery. He also noted that smart city applications will make urban life more comfortable and sustainable in the future.
