The Rhythm of Dance Rose in Cumhuriyet Square

Bornova Municipality celebrated World Dance Day with a vibrant event held in Bornova Cumhuriyet Square. The event drew great attention as hundreds of dancers performed the traditional Harmandalı dance together with citizens. Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki emphasized the unifying power of dance, stating that they will continue to place art at the heart of Bornova.

On April 29, dance enthusiasts from İzmir came together at Bornova Cumhuriyet Square to celebrate World Dance Day in a colorful event organized by the Bornova Municipality. A total of 340 dancers from 13 different dance groups performed dances from 12 different regions, offering spectators an unforgettable night.

A Meeting of Rhythm and Culture

The ELADA group brought a Latin breeze to the evening with their Rueda and Salsa performances. Yaşar University Dance Club took the stage with two choreographies: Hip Hop and Ladies Style. Hayat Dance Sports Club received loud applause for their Oriental and Hip Hop shows.

In the folkloric segment, İzmir Tourism Folklore Association performed the traditional “İzmir Men’s Dance,” Ege Alumni Association showcased the “Ankara Seymen” dance, and the Çamdibi Folk Dance Group performed a dance from the Skopje region. Bornova Art Club’s “Zeybek” performance and Ege Perdans' women’s Zeybek and Halay dances were also highly praised.

Üçetek Cultural and Art Association presented a mixed dance performance, while Kakapedia Aegean and Greek Folk Dance Group took the audience to the Aegean coast with their Sirtaki dance. Ege Culture Association added even more variety with their folk dance medley.

A Grand Finale with Collective Harmandalı

At the end of the event, dancers and citizens joined hands to perform Harmandalı together. The rhythm of dance and unity echoed through Bornova Square.
