A 4-Day Journey of Discovery with the Theme “Science in the Kitchen”

The “Science in the Kitchen” themed Winter Science Camp organized by Bornova Municipality was completed with the participation of students during the midterm break. Over the four-day camp, children learned science through fun experiments and workshops in many fields ranging from astronomy and chemistry to mathematics and technology. Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki emphasized that their goal is to make science a part of children’s everyday lives.

The Winter Science Camp 2026, organized by the Mevlana Community and Science Center and the Young Explorers Science House affiliated with Bornova Municipality, concluded with a rich and engaging program. Held between January 27–30 under the theme “Science in the Kitchen,” the camp brought together science-enthusiast children.

Exploring Different Fields of Science Through Workshops

Throughout the camp, experiments, presentations, and hands-on workshops were conducted in the fields of astronomy, biology, physics, paleontology, chemistry, mathematics, and technology. Participants enjoyed learning by connecting science with daily life. They gained knowledge on topics such as the chemistry of food, the mathematics of recipes, the nutrition of living organisms, and the origins of vegetables.

Young Explorers Learned Science Through Fun

The Winter Science Camp, offered free of charge, was attended by 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. During the four-day program, students both had fun and discovered fundamental scientific concepts through hands-on experiences.

Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki underlined that the Winter Science Camp enhances children’s analytical thinking skills and sense of curiosity, stating:
“Our aim is to make science a natural part of our children’s lives. A generation that is curious, inquisitive, and productive will illuminate the future of Bornova.”
