The Grand Celebration Will Continue Nonstop!

Bornova Municipality’s special events for European Mobility Week, which bring the city to life, raise environmental awareness and bring generations together, have begun. Through dynamic events and a week-long program, residents of Bornova are being invited to parks, squares and nature.

Production and Awareness Take to the Streets

On the first day of Mobility Week, which concluded with great enthusiasm, events focusing on the environment, nature and healthy living were held across Bornova. The “Solidarity Garden Harvest Festival” in Yakaköy was the scene of colorful moments. A “Compost Workshop” was held at Büyükpark with the participation of students and NGOs, participants’ “Carbon Footprints” were measured, and educational street games were played. Children-parent competitions were organized in front of the Ayfer Feray Open-Air Theatre, while the documentary “Duvar (The Wall)” was screened at the Uğur Mumcu Cultural and Art Center. The day concluded with a performance by the “Women’s Rhythm and Special Education Rhythm Group.”

Mayor Eşki: “We Are on the Ground for a More Active, More Environmentally Friendly Bornova”

Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki invited all residents of Bornova to participate in the events for a healthy and sustainable future, saying:

“The special program we have launched as part of European Mobility Week aims not only to promote physical activity, but also to make peace with nature, reduce our carbon footprint and, most importantly, build awareness of a sustainable way of life. On the first day of our program, we took wonderful steps, from sharing the abundance of the harvest in Yakaköy to producing compost with our children and measuring our carbon footprint at Büyükpark. We will continue working park by park and street by street to make Bornova greener, more active and more livable. I invite all my fellow citizens to join us in all the other valuable events that will begin tomorrow and continue throughout the week.”

Here Are the Events Awaiting Bornova Residents Today!

Tomorrow, events to be held at various locations across Bornova will strengthen intergenerational bonds and offer new opportunities to rediscover nature. As part of the program, “Intergenerational Sensory-Balance Workshop” bringing generations together will be held at Renkli Orman Schools; a “Biodiversity Observation and Nature Discovery Field Trip” will take place in Homeros Valley; and an “Intergenerational Justice Talk” and interactive storytelling workshop will be held in the garden of the Atatürk Library. In addition, an “Game Workshop” bringing together young people and residents aged 65 and over will be organized in Gökdere Village. Yeşilova Mound will host a “Digital Grandchild Workshop,” “Grandfather-Grandchild Penalty Shootout Tournament” and “Grandmother-Grandchild Zumba” dance session.

Mobility Program: Summary Schedule

Excitement and activity will continue uninterrupted throughout the week in Bornova with the following schedule:

• Saturday, September 19: A “Father/Son Football Match” at Büyükpark, a “Children-Parent Volleyball Match” at Muhammed Yıldız Sports Facilities, “Bornova Heritage Levantine Route” tours, and an evening “Folk Dance Performance.”
• Sunday, September 20: The city’s Mobility Week enthusiasm will reach its peak with special activity groups and gatherings.
• Monday, September 21: A “Lavender Seedling Distribution Event” will be held at Büyükpark to contribute to environmental awareness.
• Tuesday, September 22:“Putting Down Roots for Health Workshop” seedling planting at Sağlık Village, a “Volunteer Archaeological Excavation Practice” and “Awareness Trail” at Yeşilova Mound.
