A First in İzmir from Bornova: A New Model in Recycling

As Bornova Municipality, we launched the Waste Bank Project in Çamdibi, the first of its kind among municipalities in İzmir, as part of European Waste Reduction Week. The project offers an innovative model aimed at collecting recyclable waste, reducing the use of natural resources, and strengthening the circular economy.

At the opening, citizens who brought their waste were given soap, cleaning products, and organic fertilizer produced by our municipality as gifts. The first gifts were presented by our Mayor of Bornova, Ömer Eşki.

Mayor Eşki emphasized that the climate crisis is a tangible reality affecting daily life, stating:

“Recycling is a form of production; the more we recycle, the less we need to consume. Together, we are taking a small but impactful step that can solve problems we will face in our homes.”

Waste Bank Model: Contribution to the Circular Economy

Implemented under a protocol signed between Bornova Municipality and İzmir Çiğli Rotary Club, this project encourages active participation of the community in recycling. Rotary representatives stated that the project is an exemplary initiative that strengthens Bornova's environmental vision.

Youth Participation: AIESEC Collaboration

Thanks to a protocol signed with AIESEC İzmir Branch, the active participation of young people in waste management and climate adaptation projects is supported. This collaboration aims to transform environmental awareness into a lasting behavior in younger generations.

A New Era in Vegetable Waste Oil Collection

Under a renewed protocol with HBT Batı Geri Dönüşüm A.Ş., vegetable waste oils from households and businesses are collected regularly and recycled without harming the environment. The application contributes to the recycling economy while protecting environmental health.
