The September 19 Veterans’ Day program held at Bornova Cumhuriyet Square paid tribute to the heroic veterans with gratitude and appreciation. Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki, who attended the ceremony, emphasized their deep gratitude to the veterans who fought for the independence of the homeland.

The September 19 Veterans’ Day program began with a wreath-laying ceremony at Bornova Cumhuriyet Square. The ceremony was attended by Bornova District Governor Muzaffer Şahiner, Acting Commander of the 57th Artillery Brigade Colonel Zekeriya Tosun, Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki, Bornova Representative of the Turkish Combat Veterans Association İlker Türkoğlu, veterans, heads of public institutions, protocol members, department managers, school principals and students.

Following the laying of wreaths at the Atatürk Monument, a moment of silence was observed and the Turkish National Anthem was sung. As part of the commemorative program, Havin Elçiboğa, a 10th-grade student at Suphi Koyuncuoğlu Anatolian High School, recited Orhan Seyfi Orhon’s poem “Gazimiz” (“Our Veteran”). İlker Türkoğlu, Bornova Representative of the Turkish Combat Veterans Association, then delivered a speech.

The program concluded with congratulations and expressions of gratitude to the veterans.
