Attack on İnönü Marketplace!

The marketplace in Bornova’s İnönü neighborhood was vandalized by unidentified individuals—windows were smashed, ceiling panels were torn down, and graffiti was scrawled on the walls. Describing the incident as an act of "vandalism" committed purely with the intent of damaging public property, Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki announced that efforts to identify and apprehend the perpetrators have begun in coordination with law enforcement, and that the damaged areas will be swiftly repaired.

The marketplace in İnönü Neighborhood, constructed by Bornova Municipality and opened in 2019, was attacked by unknown person(s). The perpetrators broke the windows of the marketplace's toilets and administrative offices, damaged furnishings, tore off ceiling coverings, and wrote various graffiti on the market’s walls. Following the incident, Bornova Municipality reported the situation to security forces, and the police have launched an investigation to identify those responsible.

Mayor Eşki: “This is an attack on public property belonging to all of us”

In a statement about the incident, Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki described the attack on public property as "vandalism." Mayor Eşki said:
“The marketplace we opened for the use of our citizens in İnönü Neighborhood was vandalized by unidentified individuals. Toilets, offices, windows, and ceilings were all damaged. This is not just an attack on the property of the municipality, but on the property of all Bornova residents. It is an act of vandalism. We are working in coordination with law enforcement to identify the perpetrators as soon as possible and ensure they are held accountable. As Bornova Municipality, we will also swiftly repair the damaged areas and reopen them for public use.”

Repair Works Start Immediately

Bornova Municipality announced that a technical team has been dispatched to the area to begin restoring the damaged sections of the marketplace, and that the repair process will be completed shortly. The municipality affirmed that efforts will continue without interruption to make the marketplace once again a safe and functional space for the people of Bornova.
