Women’s Gatherings Continue to Grow Stronger

As part of its “Women’s Gatherings” program organized in cooperation with BAYETAV, Bornova Municipality brings women together every month around different themes. At the April event held in Gökdere, the topic “Women’s Invisible Care Labor” was discussed, while a rhythm performance, panel discussion, and felt workshop highlighted women’s labor and solidarity. Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki also emphasized the importance of making women’s labor visible.

Bornova Municipality’s Directorate of Women and Family Services has been drawing attention with its “Women’s Gatherings” program, implemented in collaboration with BAYETAV to support women’s social, cultural, and personal development. Held once a month in different neighborhoods and villages, the gatherings aim to raise awareness among women by bringing them together around specific themes while also encouraging participation in various activities and workshops.

April’s Theme: “Women’s Invisible Care Labor”

The April gathering was held in Gökdere Village under the title “Women’s Invisible Care Labor.” During the event, a rhythm performance by the Bornova Women’s Rhythm Group received great appreciation from participants. Afterwards, speaker Bircan Yalçın highlighted women’s productive power, their responsibilities in caring for children and the elderly, and their contributions to household economies.

As part of the program, a felt-making workshop was also organized, allowing women to produce together while strengthening the spirit of solidarity and sharing.

Solidarity and Awareness Continue to Grow

The Women’s Gatherings, organized to draw attention to women’s invisible labor in all areas of life, increase social awareness, and strengthen solidarity among women, will continue every month with new themes in different parts of Bornova.

Mayor Eşki: “Women’s Labor Is the Foundation of Society”

Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki emphasized the importance of the Women’s Gatherings, stating:

“Women’s invisible labor is actually one of the strongest foundations of society. Making this labor visible, supporting it, and strengthening solidarity are among our primary responsibilities. We will continue our efforts with determination to ensure that women take a stronger place in social and economic life.”
