At the “Right Start in Education Workshop” held in Bornova, it was emphasized that the transition from preschool to primary school is critical for children’s academic, social, and emotional development. Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki highlighted the recent school attacks in Şanlıurfa and Kahramanmaraş, stressing that proper education at an early age is vital not only for individual development but also for societal safety.

Hosted by Bornova Municipality at the Uğur Mumcu Cultural Center Multi-Purpose Hall, the workshop brought together educators and experts to discuss the preschool-to-primary transition in a comprehensive manner, highlighting its impact on children’s overall future.

“The transition process shapes a child’s entire life”

In his opening speech, Ozan Çırak, Campus Director of Private Bornova Radikal Schools, described the transition from preschool to primary school as one of the most critical thresholds in a child’s life, emphasizing the importance of inter-institutional cooperation in managing this process effectively.

Prof. Dr. Vesile Yıldız from the Dokuz Eylül University Faculty of Education, in her presentation titled “Transition Skills and Practices for Primary School,” underlined that early childhood education forms the foundation not only for academic success but also for social and emotional development.

Schools as protective environments

Cahit Soylu, Principal of Dokuz Eylül Primary School, drew attention with his presentation on “Addiction,” noting that proper guidance at an early age helps protect children from risks. He emphasized that schools should be seen not only as places of education but also as protective social environments.

Mayor Ömer Eşki reiterated the significance of early education, stating:
“These tragic events have once again shown us that the education children receive at an early age is crucial—not only for academic success but also for raising healthy individuals and building a safe society.”

As part of the program, participants engaged in interactive workshops covering STEM applications, robotics coding, art, and rhythm activities. These sessions provided educators with the opportunity to put theoretical knowledge into practice.
