Mayor Eşki: “We are protecting nature while supporting our producers”

As part of its beekeeping training program, Bornova Municipality has provided participants not only with equipment and hives, but also with production opportunities at the municipal apiary in Kayadibi Neighborhood for those without land of their own. This year, following the completion of the training sessions, honey was harvested both from municipal hives and from the trainees’ hives during a special event. Mayor Ömer Eşki emphasized that beekeeping is an activity that both protects nature and supports producers.

Bornova Municipality has added yet another project to its efforts supporting agricultural production and local development. The Agricultural Services Directorate successfully completed its 2025 beekeeping training program for around 100 participants, which culminated in a joyful honey harvest event.

Training and support for trainees

Participants in the beekeeping program were provided with essential equipment such as a smoker, hive tool, mask, gloves, trousers, queen excluder, pollen trap, brush, feeder, frames, and combs, as well as one full and one empty hive. Those without their own land were offered the chance to produce honey at the municipal apiary in Kayadibi Neighborhood.

Honey collected from both municipal and trainee hives was harvested during the event. The beekeepers not only enjoyed the fruits of their labor but also highlighted once again the importance of production.

Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki underlined the importance they place on agricultural production, stating:
“Beekeeping holds great value both for nature and for producers. In Bornova, we are not only supporting our beekeepers, but also protecting nature to leave a more livable city for future generations. Today’s honey harvest was the sweetest reward for all this hard work.”
