Support for Neighborhood Headmen in Bornova, Investment in Energy

4 November 2026

Bornova Municipality’s November Ordinary Council Meeting was held at the Assembly Hall of the Nevzat Kavalar Cultural Center, chaired by Mayor Ömer Eşki. Two items stood out during the meeting: an economic support package for neighborhood headmen, unanimously approved by the council, and a project for electric vehicle charging stations, which was also unanimously referred to the relevant committees.

Annual Support of TRY 50,000 for Headmen’s Bills and Office Supplies

A major step was taken to improve the quality of services provided by neighborhood headmen’s offices across Bornova and ensure uninterrupted service in an increasingly digital world. In line with the report approved by the Law and Planning and Budget Committees, the council unanimously approved an annual financial contribution of TRY 50,000 for the essential expenses of each headman’s office. Under this allocation, Bornova Municipality will cover electricity, water, internet and telephone bills, as well as monthly stationery and toner expenses.

Electric Vehicle Charging Stations at 11 Locations

In line with the environmentally friendly and sustainable urban vision of Ömer Eşki, who also serves on the Board of Directors of Energy Cities, a major project to encourage electric vehicle use across Bornova was discussed. Charging infrastructure will be developed on areas designated as parking lots in zoning plans and owned by the municipality.

Within this scope, a proposal to lease and operate a total of 17 electric vehicle charging units at 11 different locations across Bornova for a period of 10 years was unanimously referred to the relevant committees. The project will preserve the function of existing parking areas while strengthening the city’s clean energy infrastructure.

City Council President Mengüş: “We Are Breaking New Ground in Türkiye”

Bornova City Council President Attorney Doğan Baran Mengüş also delivered a comprehensive presentation covering the council’s activities over the past two years. Emphasizing that Bornova is governed through a participatory democracy approach, Mengüş outlined the council’s work.

He expressed pride in Bornova being the only municipality in Türkiye whose municipal council has a dedicated “City Council Commission,” adding that other city councils look to Bornova as a model.
