10th Beekeeping Course Launched with 100 Trainees

Bornova Municipality’s 10th Beekeeping Course has begun at the Nevzat Kavalar Cultural Center with the participation of 100 trainees. Following a total of 56 hours of training, participants will be gifted beehives with bees and beekeeping equipment, and those who start beekeeping will receive technical support throughout the year. Trainees expressed their gratitude to Bornova Municipality and Mayor Ömer Eşki for this opportunity.

The 10th edition of the Beekeeping Course, organized annually by Bornova Municipality, has started with 100 participants at the Bornova Municipality Nevzat Kavalar Cultural Center. Bringing together citizens interested in beekeeping, the course offers a comprehensive learning process through both theoretical and practical training.

Comprehensive 56-Hour Training Program

The total 56-hour training program consists of 40 hours of theoretical instruction and 16 hours of practical applications. The trainings are delivered by expert instructor Şamil Tuncay Beştoy. In the opening session, expert biologists Dr. Tülin Çetin and Dr. Yasemin Yağmur İlkerenler from the Bornova Municipality Mevlana Community and Science Center also gave presentations on bee biology.

Within the scope of the course, topics such as bee care, hive management, and the fundamental principles of beekeeping are covered in detail. At the end of the training process, participants will be gifted beehives with bees and various beekeeping materials. In addition, those who complete the course and begin beekeeping will receive technical support throughout the year, ensuring they are not left alone during the production process.

Nearly 1,000 People Trained Over 9 Years

Approximately 1,000 people have participated in the nine beekeeping training programs organized by Bornova Municipality to date. The fact that a significant number of trained participants continue beekeeping activities actively demonstrates how effective the program is in terms of sustainable production.

Messages of Thanks and Satisfaction from Trainees

One of the trainees, Hadi Mutluöz, shared his satisfaction with the training as follows:
“Our trainings have started very well, and participation is quite high. We will receive theoretical training together for five days. Afterwards, we will have practical training as well—such as hive maintenance and how to care for bees—where we will gain hands-on experience. We thank our municipality for creating this opportunity. We also heard that at the end of the training we will be given a beehive as a gift, as well as additional equipment such as clothing. This made us very happy.”

Another trainee, Dilek Şenol, expressed her feelings with these words:
“We are very happy and excited. We would like to sincerely thank Bornova Municipality and Mayor Ömer Eşki for providing us with such a training opportunity.”

Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki emphasized that beekeeping courses are not merely a hobby-based training but also an important step toward protecting nature and strengthening local production. He stated:
