Credits Increased at Kent Markets

Bornova Municipality has increased the credit limits at its seven Kent Market branches, boosting the purchasing power of citizens in need. Thanks to this initiative, which benefits 3,250 families, residents can freely meet their needs for food, cleaning supplies, stationery, fuel, and clothing. Mayor Ömer Eşki emphasized that under the municipality’s social policy, “no one in Bornova will ever feel alone.”

To strengthen social justice and ensure that low-income citizens can access basic needs with dignity, Bornova Municipality raised the credits at its Kent Markets located in Doğanlar, Altındağ, Işıkkent, Serintepe, Yeşilçam, Naldöken, and Çamdibi Atatürk Park. Credit limits, which were previously set at 80, 90, and 100, have now been increased to 100, 110, and 120.

Dignified support for 3,250 families

The Social Aid Department identifies eligible households through social assessments, and credits are loaded onto their Kent Market cards every two months. With these credits, 3,250 families can freely shop for essential needs such as food, cleaning products, fuel, stationery, and clothing. No money is exchanged at the markets, ensuring that beneficiaries can shop according to their preferences. For elderly or bedridden citizens, municipal teams deliver supplies directly to their homes.

Mayor Ömer Eşki stated:
“We attach great importance to ensuring that our citizens in need can access their basic needs with dignity. By increasing credits, we have strengthened their purchasing power against rising living costs. For us, the greatest achievement is that our residents feel equal and free, even when receiving support. We will continue to grow the spirit of solidarity in Bornova.”

What can be bought with 120 credits?

With 120 credits, citizens can purchase: 1 liter sunflower oil, 500 g tea, 1 kg sugar, 830 g tomato paste, 1 kg flour, 500 g pasta, 1 kg red lentils, 750 g salt, 500 g vermicelli, 1 kg bulgur, 1 kg beans, 1 liter milk, 200 ml fruit juice, 250 g margarine, 1 packaged cake, 1 pack of breadsticks, 750 ml dish detergent, 500 ml liquid soap, 500 ml shampoo, and 1 liter bleach.

Meaningful names for Kent Markets

To honor the legacy of past mayors who left their mark in social municipal services, the Bornova Municipal Council unanimously decided to name Kent Market branches after them. The names Ahmet Piriştina, Celal Altınay, Aydın Erten, Vedat Dalokay, Zafer Keskiner, and Enver Salih Dinçer are now carried forward through this important project.
