Bornova’s Little Ones Designed the Future at the LEGO Workshop

Bornova Municipality has added another initiative to its projects supporting children in learning through play. The “From Imagination to Design with 6 Bricks” LEGO Workshop, organized in cooperation with the Mevlana Social Sciences Center and NE-DER, was successfully completed after a four-week adventure filled with creativity and fun. The children pushed the boundaries of their imagination using only six LEGO pieces.

Throughout the workshop, each participating child was given only six colorful LEGO bricks. Based on the “6 Bricks” pedagogical approach, a different theme and task was introduced each week. Starting with the same six pieces, the children created completely different structures, vehicles, and figures by the end of the program, demonstrating that there is no single right way to be creative.

They Didn’t Just Have Fun; They Developed Skills for the Future

The enjoyable four-week workshop taught children not only how to build things, but also how to think in multifaceted ways. Through weekly themes, the children had the opportunity to practice critical 21st-century skills such as problem-solving, concentration, attention, creativity, communication, and collaboration. By experimenting, making mistakes, modifying their creations, and starting over without giving up, the children experienced the joy of creating.

They Strengthened Their Communication Skills by Presenting Their Models

One of the most remarkable aspects of the workshop was the sharing sessions. Sometimes designing a vehicle from their dreams and sometimes a fantastical structure, the children presented their models to their friends and shared the stories behind their creations. In this way, the workshop evolved from simply being a construction space into a powerful communication platform where ideas could be freely expressed and collaborative learning was encouraged.

“Great Ideas Start with the Smallest Pieces”

At the closing event of the workshop held at the Mevlana Social Sciences Center, the colorful and original designs created by the children received great appreciation. In just four weeks and with six bricks, Bornova’s little ones turned countless dreams into reality, proving to the entire city just how big a world can be built with the smallest pieces.
