Prof. Dr. Ünal Explained Common Misconceptions in Fruit Growing

Bornova Municipality organized a training session titled “Common Misconceptions in Fruit Growing” to help producers access accurate agricultural knowledge.

In the training delivered by Prof. Dr. Ali Ünal, frequent mistakes in areas such as irrigation, fertilization, and pruning were addressed. The municipality will continue with similar trainings, including a session on “Olive Cultivation” scheduled for July 4.

Bornova Municipality Continues Educational Support for Producers and Consumers

Bornova Municipality is continuing its Producer and Consumer Information Trainings to enhance producers’ knowledge and support productivity in agricultural production. Within this scope, in collaboration with the Izmir Branch of the Chamber of Agricultural Engineers and the Horticulture Association, retired faculty member Prof. Dr. Ali Ünal from Ege University Faculty of Agriculture conducted a training on “Common Misconceptions in Fruit Growing.”

Frequent Mistakes and Correct Practices in Fruit Growing Discussed

The training, held at Nevzat Kavalar Cultural Center, drew great interest from producers. Prof. Dr. Ünal shared examples of common mistakes in fruit growing and explained the impacts of errors in orchard establishment, irrigation, fertilization, pruning, and soil cultivation on yield and quality. The session was interactive, with active participation and questions from attendees.

Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki emphasized the importance of local producers accessing scientific methods and knowledge, stating:
“Agricultural production is not only vital for rural development but also a strategic area for food security. As Bornova Municipality, we will continue to support our producers and provide them with accurate information.”

Focus on Olive Cultivation

The Producer and Consumer Information Trainings, coordinated by Bornova Municipality’s Department of Agricultural Services, will continue to provide scientific and practical support to local producers. As part of this effort, another training on “Olive Cultivation” will be held at the same center on Friday, July 4, at 10:00 a.m.
