Scalpel Intervention on the Variant Road in Bornova

20 April 2026

End to irregular parking, a new step for safer traffic

Bornova Municipality has launched a central median project on the variant road passing through the Aşık Veysel Recreation Area, aiming to prevent irregular parking and improve traffic safety. Mayor Ömer Eşki inspected the works on-site, emphasizing that the project is designed to enhance driving safety and regulate traffic flow, while similar infrastructure efforts continue simultaneously across the district.

As part of ongoing efforts to improve transportation comfort, the municipality is carrying out road, infrastructure, and superstructure works in multiple locations. The central median project on the route—connecting the Northern Ring Road to Atatürk Neighborhood and commonly known as the “variant road”—has drawn particular attention.

Due to its scenic view, the area had become a hotspot for irregular parking. With the new arrangement, the municipality aims to ensure safer traffic conditions and a more organized use of the road. Mayor Eşki received updates from field teams during his inspection.

“We will not allow unplanned parking”

Speaking at the site, Mayor Eşki stated:
“This road is one of the key transportation arteries of Bornova. However, random parking poses a serious risk to driving safety and disrupts traffic flow. With this central median project, we are providing a permanent solution.”

He also highlighted the importance of urban aesthetics, noting that the improvements will contribute not only to traffic safety but also to the visual integrity of the area.

Intensive work across the district

In addition to the variant road project, municipal teams are actively working in various neighborhoods across Bornova. Asphalt paving teams are removing interlocking paving stones on 6079 Street in Egemenlik Neighborhood, while milling operations are being carried out at night on Sanat Street.

Maintenance and repair works continue in Merkez Neighborhood, while construction teams are implementing median works at the entrance of the 3rd Industrial Zone. Environmental landscaping is underway in front of İZMAR, where İzmir Metropolitan Municipality units are located.

Further works include paving repairs in Erzene and Barbaros neighborhoods, bollard production on Mustafa Kemal Street, and electrical excavation works on 910 Street.

Through these simultaneous efforts, Bornova Municipality aims to enhance both traffic safety and overall quality of life throughout the district.
