Saplings Met the Soil, Hearts United in Bornova

15 May 2025

Bornova Municipality is celebrating the 10–16 May World Disability Awareness Week with events held under the slogan “We Are Aware, We Are Strong Together.” Individuals with disabilities and their families gathered for a nature-inspired event at 19 May 1919 Park in Erzene Neighborhood. Participants planted saplings, painted, and played games, enjoying a joyful day outdoors.

The event was attended by Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki and his wife Beste Eşki. Mayor Eşki joined the children in planting various tree saplings. The event featured cheerful clowns, face painting booths, and play areas, creating moments of happiness for the children. Participants also took numerous souvenir photos with the mayor.

Mayor Eşki: "We will overcome barriers together"

Closely engaging with the children throughout the day, Mayor Ömer Eşki said: “Disability is not a deficiency but a social responsibility. In Bornova, we carry this responsibility together. Through sapling planting, we are not only nurturing nature but also growing our sense of solidarity. The happiness in the eyes of the children here today shows us we are on the right path. We have full faith that we will overcome all obstacles together.”

Events to Continue

Bornova Municipality’s Disability Awareness Week events will continue on Friday, May 16 at 2:00 PM with the “Awareness Through Dance” event at Ayfer Feray Open Air Theatre in Büyükpark. The event will feature dance performances by individuals with disabilities.
