Municipal Teams Supported Firefighting Efforts in Coordination with the Regional Directorate of Forestry

A wildfire that broke out in the forested area surrounding Homeros Valley, one of Bornova's iconic natural landmarks, was brought under control through the coordinated efforts of public institutions and the swift intervention of Bornova Municipality. Immediately after the first reports of the fire, the municipality dispatched construction equipment, Fire Incident Response Vehicles (YOMA), and field teams to support firefighting operations. Following the successful containment of the fire, cooling operations have been continuing meticulously in the area.

Under the coordination of the Regional Directorate of Forestry, firefighting efforts included 2 firefighting aircraft, 4 helicopters, 16 fire engines, 6 water supply vehicles, and 1 bulldozer, conducting operations both from the air and on the ground. Bornova Municipality played a key supporting role by providing heavy machinery, YOMA vehicles, and personnel. Municipal teams worked intensively to ensure access to the fire zone, reinforce fire lines, and provide logistical support to the crews on site.

Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki stated that municipal teams had been on the scene since the outbreak of the fire and said:

"The wildfire that occurred in the forested area around Bornova's Homeros Valley was addressed in close coordination by all relevant public institutions and our municipal teams from the very first moment. The fire has been brought under control and extinguished, while cooling operations continue carefully throughout the area. Mayor Eşki also emphasized that Bornova Municipality will continue to mobilize all available resources during emergencies and disasters, stressing that protecting natural areas is a shared responsibility for everyone.

Following the successful containment of the fire, crews continue cooling operations to prevent any possible re-ignition. Bornova Municipality remains on site, maintaining its support in coordination with the relevant authorities.
