“I Appreciate Every One of You; We Will Work Together for Bornova”

Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki met with municipal police personnel at a special dinner organized as part of Municipal Police Week. Emphasizing that municipal police officers represent the authority of the municipality and the seriousness of public administration, Mayor Eşki announced that the number of personnel would be increased to 140 and that the vehicle fleet would be renewed.

Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki came together with the personnel of the Bornova Municipality Municipal Police Department at a special dinner held as part of Municipal Police Week celebrations. Stating that municipal police officers are the force that most strongly demonstrates the municipality’s presence in the field, Mayor Eşki thanked all personnel for their dedicated efforts. Bornova Municipality Municipal Police Director Tamer Yiğit Güler and Licensing Director Yılmaz Bakır also attended the evening.

“The Municipality Must Have a Firm Side as Well as a Friendly Face”

Recalling that institutions within the tradition of public administration have both compassionate and authoritative aspects, Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki highlighted the challenges of municipal police work. Mayor Eşki said:

“Just as the state and the municipality have a friendly face, they also have a firm side — a ‘Celal’ side — that must step in when necessary to maintain order and discipline. You make the municipality’s presence felt in the field and remind citizens of their duties and responsibilities. Complaints from time to time do not upset me; on the contrary, they show that you are doing your job. Everything you have done so far has given us tremendous strength. I appreciate every one of you.”

Municipal Police Make a Major Contribution to Record Licensing Figures

Mayor Eşki also highlighted the joint achievements of the Municipal Police and Licensing Departments. He stated that Bornova currently has a total of 14,000 licensed businesses, while more than 8,000 businesses have been licensed during the past two and a half years of his administration. He emphasized that the municipal police teams, who carry out inspections day and night, have made a major contribution to this achievement.

Personnel Numbers to Reach 140, New Vehicles on the Way

Stating that they are determined to improve the working conditions of the Municipal Police Department, Mayor Eşki announced that his target is to increase the number of municipal police personnel in Bornova to around 130–140. In addition to a gradual increase in personnel after the New Year, he said that all necessary vehicles and equipment would be provided as soon as possible so that teams can operate more effectively in the field.

“In short, we are going to make you work even more, because we are very pleased with your efforts,” he said.

Director Güler: “Our Mayor Has Always Stood Behind Us”

Municipal Police Director Tamer Yiğit Güler said in his speech that they had been working side by side with his team for the past two and a half years. Thanking Mayor Ömer Eşki for providing them with the freedom to carry out their duties, Güler said:

“We have a difficult job as municipal police officers. However, throughout the two and a half years we have worked with our Mayor, we have never felt any pressure; our Mayor has always stood behind us. This is our sole livelihood. We will continue working to earn our salaries and, as one of the greatest requirements of being a Kemalist, to fulfill the duties entrusted to us in the best possible way.”
