Ünal Ersözlü Guest of the City Talks Series

Poet and writer Ünal Ersözlü was the May guest of the “City Talks” series organized by Bornova Municipality and the Bornova City Council. Describing poetry as a search for truth, Ersözlü emphasized his deep sense of belonging to İzmir and spoke about his latest book, Böğürtlen Öpücüğü. The event concluded with the presentation of a certificate of appreciation and a book signing session.

The latest guest of the “City Talks” events, organized as part of Bornova’s cultural and artistic activities, was Ünal Ersözlü. The event began with a brief analysis of Ersözlü’s poetry by poet Atilla Er. This introduction to poetry revealed the literary depth of the discussion from the very beginning.

“It Is a Great Honor to Belong to İzmir”

In his speech, Ünal Ersözlü expressed his strong sense of belonging to İzmir, saying:

“I feel great pride in being descendants of Homer and in belonging to the ancient city of İzmir, which has a history of 8,500 years.”

His words received strong applause from the audience.

Poetry: A Journey in Search of Truth

Defining poetry as a search for truth, Ersözlü explained that he writes by carefully selecting words and working intensely on them. Emphasizing that poetry is an indispensable need in human life, the writer noted that his verses contain a subtle yet profound distinction between truth and reality.

On “Blackberry Kiss”

Ersözlü also provided information about his latest poetry collection, Böğürtlen Öpücüğü, which consists of 77 poems. Sharing insights into the book’s creative process and thematic structure, the author stated that he continues the same search for truth in his prose writings as well.

Cultural and Artistic Activities Will Continue

Bornova City Council President Doğan Baran Mengüş emphasized that such events will continue to grow in number. Highlighting the importance of culture and art in urban life, Mengüş stated that Bornova would become an even more active center in this field.

The event was moderated by poet and writer İbrahim Aktaş. Conducted in a question-and-answer format, the program explored Ersözlü’s perspective on literature and his writing process in detail.

At the end of the program, Ünal Ersözlü was presented with a certificate of appreciation for his contributions. The event concluded with the author signing copies of his books.
