Mayor Eşki: “We Have Transformed One of Bornova’s Busiest Routes into a Modern Urban Axis”

Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki carried out inspections on Pınar Street in Pınarbaşı as part of the ongoing road construction and renovation works across the district. Stating that the comprehensive renewal of Pınar Street—including roadways, sidewalks, intersections, lighting, and landscaping—has reached its final stage, Mayor Eşki announced that the unveiling of the statue honoring World and Olympic Champion national weightlifter Naim Süleymanoğlu will take place on Friday, January 23.

A Comprehensive Transformation on Pınarbaşı’s Main Artery

Extending from Kemalpaşa Street to the center of Pınarbaşı and one of the area’s most heavily used routes, Pınar Street has been transformed into a modern urban avenue through comprehensive works carried out by Bornova Municipality.

Mayor Ömer Eşki emphasized that, along with road and sidewalk improvements, intersection renewals, a contemporary lighting system, and landscaping works have been completed, completely changing the face of the area. He noted that, particularly in the zone where wedding halls are located, road, sidewalk, and intersection arrangements were handled through an integrated planning approach.

“Pınarbaşı Is Now Brighter and Safer”

Inspecting the completed works on Pınar Street on site, Mayor Eşki said:
“We are in Bornova’s Pınarbaşı, one of the most beautiful parts of Bornova. This area previously had serious problems related to traffic and lighting. Thanks to the work we have been carrying out for a long time, we are now seeing results. All necessary traffic arrangements have been completed. We have also devoted significant effort to lighting, and that work is nearing completion as well. Very soon, as you can see, this area will become much brighter and much more attractive.”

The Champion’s Name Will Add Meaning to Pınar Street

Stressing that they wanted to crown the infrastructure and environmental improvements with a meaningful landmark, Mayor Eşki announced that Turkey’s tallest statue of Naim Süleymanoğlu will be unveiled at Pınarbaşı Square:

“As a crowning element to the road, intersection, and lighting works we have completed here, we wanted to add another one of our values to this area. We wished to commemorate and keep alive the memory of a great hero—our national icon Naim Süleymanoğlu, whom we all know as the ‘Pocket Hercules’—a World and Olympic Champion who devoted his life to protecting the name of the Turkish nation, raising the Turkish flag, and having the National Anthem played, and who set out to tell the world about the oppression and genocide experienced in Bulgaria.”

Grand Opening on January 23: All Residents Invited

Inviting all residents of Bornova and İzmir to the opening ceremony to be held at Pınarbaşı Square on Friday, January 23 at 3:00 PM, Mayor Eşki said:
“Together, we will inaugurate Turkey’s tallest Naim Süleymanoğlu statue in this beautiful square of Pınarbaşı. We continue to work tirelessly to make Pınarbaşı and Bornova more beautiful places. We hope to expand these efforts even further and spread them across all of Bornova. Once again, we bow with respect before the cherished memory of Naim Süleymanoğlu.”

“Safe and Modern Transportation for Every Neighborhood”

Emphasizing that road construction, maintenance, and improvement works continue uninterrupted in Bornova’s various neighborhoods, Mayor Ömer Eşki stated that their goal is to establish a safe, comfortable, and modern transportation infrastructure throughout the entire district.
