Özgür Özel to Attend Two Major Openings in Bornova

14 May 2026

Mescid-i Aksa Mosque in Sarnıç and One of Türkiye’s Largest Urban Gardens in Doğanlar to Open

Republican People’s Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel will attend two important opening ceremonies in Bornova on Friday, May 15. As part of projects implemented by Bornova Municipality, Özel will first inaugurate the newly completed Mescid-i Aksa Mosque in Sarnıç Neighborhood and later officially open the Doğanlar Urban Garden. Inviting all residents of Bornova to the ceremonies, Mayor Ömer Eşki stated that the municipality will continue supporting solidarity, production, and women’s participation in social life.

Friday Prayer at the New Mescid-i Aksa Mosque in Sarnıç

The first program will take place at 1:00 PM in Sarnıç Neighborhood, where the Mescid-i Aksa Mosque — whose foundation was previously laid with the participation of Özgür Özel — will officially open for worship. Following the ceremony, CHP Chairman Özgür Özel will perform Friday prayer at the mosque.

After it was determined that the previous mosque in Sarnıç, one of the district’s historic village settlements, posed a risk due to ground movement, Bornova Municipality launched a new project. Inspired by the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, the new three-story mosque also includes a neighborhood headman’s office on the ground floor. The area where the former mosque stood has been redesigned as a village square featuring an Atatürk bust and a flagpole.

Meeting with Women Producers at the Doğanlar Urban Garden

The second stop of Özgür Özel’s Bornova visit will be the Doğanlar Urban Garden in Doğanlar Neighborhood, where Bornova Municipality’s seventh urban garden will officially open. At 2:00 PM, the CHP Chairman will meet women producers at one of Türkiye’s newest and largest urban garden projects.

The garden will benefit a total of 278 women, each allocated a 24-square-meter production plot. Women living in the Doğanlar and Ümit neighborhoods will carry out production entirely through ecological methods. Within the project, all expenses are covered by Bornova Municipality, while participants will handle cultivation, irrigation, and maintenance activities.

Mayor Eşki: “We Are Expanding Solidarity and Production in Bornova”

Mayor Ömer Eşki emphasized that the projects implemented in Bornova are strong examples of social municipalism and said:

“While providing our citizens with safe and modern places of worship, we are also expanding urban gardens that support women’s participation in production. We will continue strengthening solidarity, productivity, and a shared culture of living together in Bornova.”
