Night Shift on Mustafa Kemal Avenue

19 September 2025

Mayor Eşki: “It will be one of İzmir’s most beautiful avenues”

Following the completion of infrastructure works by İZSU, Bornova Municipality continues redevelopment efforts to give Mustafa Kemal Avenue a modern look. Mayor Ömer Eşki, who closely monitored the works on-site, said that with wide sidewalks, parking spaces, landscaping, and new lighting, the avenue will become one of İzmir’s most beautiful. He thanked citizens for their patience and municipal workers for their dedication.

As one of the busiest arteries in the district, Mustafa Kemal Avenue was reopened to traffic on the morning of September 8, marking the start of the new school year, thanks to Bornova Municipality’s swift intervention after İZSU’s extensive infrastructure works were completed. The municipal teams are not only easing transportation but also working to modernize the avenue’s appearance.

Monitoring the works on-site
Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki personally visited the works, which continued throughout the night, and addressed citizens:
“Good evening, dear Bornova residents. It’s 1:00 a.m. and we’re here on Mustafa Kemal Avenue. The works will continue until the early morning hours. We have been carrying out intensive work here for a long time. İZSU completed very important infrastructure projects on this street, which caused transportation difficulties. Now that those are finished, we turned it into an opportunity to create an avenue worthy of the name of our Great Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk — with wide sidewalks, parking spaces, landscaping and median work, and brand-new lighting. Very soon, this will be one of the most beautiful avenues in İzmir. I sincerely thank our citizens for their patience and our colleagues who work tirelessly day and night.”

Day and night effort for a modern Bornova
Bornova Municipality’s goal is to transform Mustafa Kemal Avenue from being merely a traffic route into a prestigious street with wide sidewalks, modern lighting, landscaping, and parking areas — a space where Bornova residents can breathe and enjoy.
