Women’s craftsmanship meets the city

The New Year Gift Fair, hosted by Bornova Municipality and held on Sarmaşıklı Street in Büyükpark, brought together handmade products created by women producers with the people of Bornova. Featuring a wide range of items—from clothing and jewelry to handmade home goods and toys—the event highlighted the importance of supporting women’s labor for both the local economy and social solidarity. Mayor Ömer Eşki emphasized that such organizations play a vital role in empowering women and strengthening community ties.

Organized annually by Bornova Municipality, the New Year Gift Fair took place with great enthusiasm on Sarmaşıklı Street in front of the municipal building at Büyükpark. Handcrafted products made by members of the Bornova Women’s Initiative and Entrepreneurship Cooperative were both exhibited and turned into income opportunities. Hundreds of alternatives, ranging from clothing and toys to jewelry and handmade home and lifestyle products, attracted strong interest from residents eager to share the New Year spirit.

Mayor Eşki: “Women’s labor strengthens the city’s economy and culture”

Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki drew attention to the importance of supporting women’s labor for local development, stating:
“We are proud to contribute to the local economy and social solidarity through projects that support women’s labor in Bornova. Events like this not only support the economic independence of women but also greatly enrich our city’s cultural life.”

Bornova Deputy Mayor Cem Arıkan, who also attended the opening, wished women producers a prosperous and successful year.
