A Sweet Touch to Employment by Bornova Municipality

The “Employment-Guaranteed Pastry and Bakery Course,” organized by Bornova Municipality in cooperation with the İzmir Confectioners and Pastry Chefs Chamber and the İzmir Soroptimist Club, has been successfully completed. After three months of training, 38 participants received their certificates, while the cake titled “Up” won first place in the final competition. Mayor Ömer Eşki emphasized that every project involving women in production is an investment in Bornova’s future.

Held at the Evka-3 Culinary Workshop, the course provided 300 hours of hands-on training over three months. Of the 38 graduates, three were men. The program concluded with a colorful cake competition, where “Up” took first place, followed by “Flower Fairies” in second and “Te Fiti” in third place.

Mayor Eşki: “Every project with women in production is an investment in the future”
Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki stated, “Women’s active participation in production processes is the key not only to economic but also to social development. Through projects like this, we are both empowering women with professional skills and strengthening the culture of solidarity in Bornova. We highly value collaborations that help us build a Bornova that produces, shares, and grows together.”

“Producing and Growing Together”
İzmir Confectioners and Pastry Chefs Chamber President İhsan Esen said, “Thanks to our 10-year collaboration with Bornova Municipality, hundreds of participants have gained professions. We follow their progress and take pride in their success.”

İzmir Soroptimist Club President Beril İşçoğlu added, “Our main goal is to strengthen women’s social status and economic independence. This project was created precisely with that purpose.”

Turkey Soroptimist Clubs Federation President Betül Elmasoğlu remarked, “For 72 years, we have been touching the lives of women and girls. I believe this project will receive international recognition.”

An Example of International Solidarity
Silke Niehaus, representative of the project’s international partner Bread Against Need Foundation, congratulated the graduates, saying, “You worked hard and proved your success. You should be proud of yourselves.”

Bornova Municipality’s Cultural Affairs Director Yasin Barut concluded, “The key to this project’s success was strong teamwork. I thank everyone who contributed.”
