First Meeting Held in Kazım Dirik Neighborhood with Earthquake Preparedness on the Agenda

The first of the Neighborhood Assemblies initiated by the Bornova City Council as part of a participatory local governance approach was held in Kazım Dirik Neighborhood. The meeting saw high attendance, and Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki joined residents for breakfast, listening to their concerns firsthand.

Mayor Eşki: “We’ll visit every neighborhood”

Highlighting the size and importance of Kazım Dirik Neighborhood, Mayor Ömer Eşki stated:

“This is the first of many neighborhood meetings. We will do our best to meet with residents as much as possible. We’ll also try to attend all programs organized by our City Council. Thank you for being here today. Our goal isn’t just to talk, but to spend time with you and engage in direct dialogue.”

Earthquake Preparedness Took Center Stage

The main topic of the meeting was disaster preparedness. Bornova City Council President, Attorney Doğan Baran Mengüş, emphasized that Kazım Dirik is one of the neighborhoods in Bornova most vulnerable to earthquakes.

“That’s why we chose disaster preparedness as the focus of this gathering,” he explained.

Neighborhood Support Teams Being Formed

Sinan, Director of Disaster Affairs at Bornova Municipality, also addressed the attendees:

“We’ve experienced great suffering from earthquakes in the past. One of our mayor’s top priorities is disaster readiness. In line with this, we are launching post-disaster support teams in every neighborhood. Kazım Dirik is where we’re taking the first step.”
