A Full 19 May Celebration in Bornova

Bornova Municipality celebrated the Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day on May 19 with concerts, sports events and chess tournaments. While the Youth Festival held at Küçükpark Square attracted great interest, the paintball tournament in Homeros Valley and the chess tournament at Uğur Mumcu Culture and Arts Center brought young people together. Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki stated that they will continue to support young people’s engagement with art, sports and social life.

Bornova Municipality brought young people together through art, sports and entertainment-filled events organized across the city as part of the May 19 Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day celebrations. Events held at different locations throughout the district drew strong participation and created colorful scenes.

Festival atmosphere at Küçükpark

The May 19 Youth Festival took place at Küçükpark Square, one of İzmir’s liveliest meeting points. During the three-day festival, Grup İlyada — formed by the music instructors of Bornova Municipality’s Hobby and Skills Development Courses — as well as Zoza and Kozmonot performed on stage. The festival concluded with a DJ performance by Olcay Fidan and a concert by Fondip, allowing young people to fully enjoy the holiday spirit. Throughout the festival, Küçükpark Square became the center of music and entertainment.

Paintball excitement in Homeros Valley

An adventure course competition and paintball tournament were organized in Homeros Valley for university students benefiting from the Gülşah Durbay Youth Center. Held in a natural setting, the event offered students both competitive moments and enjoyable experiences.

Strong participation in the chess tournament

The May 19 Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day Chess Tournament was held in the Multi-Purpose Hall of Uğur Mumcu Culture and Arts Center. Organized in cooperation with the İzmir Provincial Representation of the Turkish Chess Federation, the two-day tournament hosted a total of 114 athletes. Competitions were held in two categories: under 10 and under 14. Winners received gift vouchers totaling 24,000 TL.

Mayor Eşki: “We will continue supporting the energy of young people”

Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki emphasized that May 19 symbolizes trust and hope in young people, adding that the municipality values the active participation of youth in art, sports and social life. He stated that the events aimed to support young people’s energy, productivity and spirit of solidarity, and noted that Bornova Municipality will continue expanding its youth-oriented culture, arts and sports projects.
