A museum is a permanent, non-profit institution in the service of society that researches, collects, preserves, interprets, and exhibits tangible and intangible heritage. Museums are open to the public, accessible, and inclusive; they promote diversity and sustainability. They operate and communicate ethically and professionally, with the participation of communities, and offer diverse experiences for education, enjoyment, reflection, and knowledge sharing.

The purpose of each museum is to successfully implement and carry out scientific, educational, technical, and administrative services related to its field of focus, within the scope of the museum definition, and to contribute to its area of expertise.

To achieve this purpose in museums:

Museum Collections:
The term refers to museum objects that are classified using scientific methods and recorded in inventories. Museum objects include all movable cultural assets that possess the characteristics of antiquities and relate to fields such as science, culture, religion, fine arts, and similar disciplines.

Educational courses, conferences, and excursions are organized both within the museum and outside it. Museums contribute to the development of the cultural life of their surrounding communities.

The maintenance, repair, conservation, and restoration of museum collections are ensured. For this purpose, workshops and laboratories are established.

In cooperation with all levels of educational institutions in the province where the museum is located, efforts are made to help students become familiar with museums and to educate them in protecting cultural values.

Through library services, museums promote library culture as well as reading and research habits; they carry out activities to encourage the development of reading habits and support educational achievement.
