All Teams Take to the Field for Three Days

Bornova Municipality, which has launched an intensive campaign against illegal dumping of construction debris causing environmental pollution throughout the district, carried out a dawn inspection in the Işıkkent area. Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki, who joined the municipal police teams in the field, announced that a major mobilization had been launched to clear all illegally dumped debris across the district and called on residents to show greater awareness and cooperation.

Strict Inspections in Işıkkent: Night Shifts and Camera Surveillance Begin

Bornova Municipality has stepped up inspections to the highest level to prevent illegal dumping that threatens the district’s natural environment and public health. Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki, who monitored the midnight operations in the Işıkkent area on site, stated that municipal police teams are maintaining 24/7 night shifts at critical locations. Eşki also announced that camera surveillance systems are being installed to catch illegal dumpers in the act, emphasizing that those who harm the environment will not be allowed to continue.

Some Operations Suspended as All Trucks Are Assigned to Debris Removal

Mayor Ömer Eşki noted that illegally dumped construction debris causes a significant loss of municipal time and labor and stated that all municipal resources would be redirected to this effort over the next three days in order to completely clear Bornova of this pollution. Eşki said:

“We are taking all our trucks assigned to road, park and cleaning services away from their routine duties. For the next three days, all of these vehicles will be assigned to collecting construction debris across Bornova.”

The Scope of the Operation Expands from the Shoemakers’ Industrial Site

Mayor Ömer Eşki also inspected the area near the Işıkkent Shoemakers’ Industrial Site, where large amounts of debris and waste had been dumped, and drew attention to the shoe-production waste in the area. Eşki stated that shoe-production waste is now being collected directly from businesses and provided the following information:

“However, this area had been a place where shoe manufacturers from other districts had been bringing and dumping their waste for years. Now that the area has been cleaned and the necessary measures have been taken, those who can no longer dump their waste here are taking it to other nearby areas. They had strongly opposed the work we were carrying out. But now, seeing the current situation, we can understand even more clearly how necessary and correct this work was. As we take measures and bring the area under control, these problems will gradually disappear.”

On-Site Disposal with a New Facility After October 15

Mayor Eşki stated that many plastic products causing environmental pollution are also being dumped in these areas and announced that the scope of the initiative would be expanded:

“The work we have been carrying out in the Shoemakers’ area for some time will gradually extend to the scrap dealers’ area and then to all producers across Bornova. We will collect this waste and industrial waste directly from their premises and dispose of it at the new facility we will establish after October 15. Our main goal is to dispose of waste where it is generated and eliminate it at the source. We will also accelerate our work on construction debris. Soon, you will not encounter any of these scenes.”

Mayor Eşki: “This Is a Major Environmental and Humanitarian Offense!”

Addressing the people of İzmir from Işıkkent, Mayor Ömer Eşki strongly criticized those responsible for environmental pollution and continued:

“Our natural environment, our streams and unfortunately every part of our city are being polluted with great disregard. What is being done is a major environmental and humanitarian offense. This clean-up operation will cause us a significant loss of working time and force us to postpone other projects that we need to carry out. We have to redirect both our municipal police officers from other inspection areas and personnel from different departments to these locations.”

“We Want Our Citizens to Stand with Us”

Emphasizing that the fight against environmental pollution can only be won through collective solidarity, rather than by the municipality alone, Eşki called on Bornova residents to work together with the municipality:

“As the municipality, we are closely monitoring the situation with our technological capabilities, cameras and municipal police inspections. However, we also want our citizens to be more vigilant about this issue. We ask them to report anyone carrying out illegal dumping to our municipality. Let’s overcome this problem together. We are doing our very best, and we want our citizens to stand with us in this fight.”
