A Meeting of History and Motivation in Selçuk

A motivation trip to Selçuk was organized for neighborhood headmen (mukhtars) who completed their training במסגרת the Bornova Mukhtars Academy, carried out through the cooperation of institutions in Bornova. During the program, participants visited the Ancient City of Ephesus, the House of the Virgin Mary, and Şirince. Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki and Selçuk Mayor Filiz Ceritoğlu Sengel also met with the mukhtars. Mayor Eşki emphasized the importance of mukhtars in local governance and stated that such projects strengthen cooperation and solidarity.

The Participatory/Inclusive Governance and Communication Training Project for the Mukhtars of Bornova District (Bornova Mukhtars Academy), conducted with grant support from the General Directorate of Civil Society Relations of the Ministry of Interior and in cooperation with the Bornova District Governor’s Office, Bornova Municipality, Yaşar University, and the Bornova Mukhtars Association, was successfully completed. Following the training and seminar process, a trip to Selçuk, the Ancient City of Ephesus, the House of the Virgin Mary, and Şirince was organized to boost the morale and motivation of the mukhtars.

A Day Immersed in History and Culture

As part of the program, the mukhtars explored the fascinating atmosphere of the Ancient City of Ephesus, visited the House of the Virgin Mary, and enjoyed pleasant moments strolling through the historic streets of Şirince. The trip, organized in Selçuk—one of İzmir’s districts renowned for its cultural heritage—offered participants the opportunity both to relax and to create new memories.

Mayors Meet with Mukhtars

During the enjoyable trip, Selçuk Mayor Filiz Ceritoğlu Sengel, Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki, and his wife Beste Eşki came together with the mukhtars over a meal. The meeting, held in a warm and friendly atmosphere, further strengthened communication between local administrators and the mukhtars.

Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki emphasized that mukhtars are among the most important stakeholders in local government, stating:

“Ensuring that our mukhtars are both well-equipped with knowledge and highly motivated directly affects the quality of services provided to our citizens. Through such projects, we will continue to strengthen our solidarity and cooperation.”
