Ömer Eşki explains local government during Life Studies class

Ömer Eşki, Mayor of Bornova, visited a second-grade Life Studies class and spoke to students about local governments. During the lesson, which focused on professions, he explained what local administrations are, how he became mayor, and what a mayor’s duties include. He also shared the good news about new parks, told the children, “I will take you to those parks as well,” listened to their requests, and answered their questions. The class, filled with lively conversations, ended with books being gifted to the students.

Second-grade students at Dr. Cavit Özyeğin Primary School welcomed an unusual guest during their Life Studies class. Ömer Eşki joined the lesson, where professions were the main topic, and explained in simple terms what local governments are, how a mayor is elected, and what responsibilities the position carries.

Mayor Eşki emphasized that municipalities have a wide range of responsibilities, from building parks and providing cleaning services to implementing social projects and organizing cultural events. “Being a mayor means working to build a better city for everyone,” he said.

“I will take you to the new parks”

Throughout the lesson, Eşki answered the children’s questions one by one and also announced new park projects planned for Bornova. Responding warmly to questions such as “Will there be slides in the park?” and “Will you build bicycle paths?”, he excited the class by saying, “I will take you to those parks as well.”

The cheerful and friendly discussion allowed students to learn about local government while hearing directly about municipal services.

Books as gifts at the end of the lesson

At the end of the visit, which was filled with colorful moments, Mayor Eşki presented books to the students. The children’s happiness was evident, while teachers noted that this meaningful meeting helped students develop awareness about their city.
