Mayor Eşki Attends Iftar Dinner of Macedonian Immigrants

“This beautiful 16-year tradition keeps Bornova’s cultural richness alive”

Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki attended the traditional iftar program of the İzmir Macedonian Immigrants Culture Preservation and Solidarity Association, distributing food and leading the iftar prayer. Mayor Eşki emphasized that this iftar gathering, which has been held for 16 years, is an important tradition that keeps Bornova’s cultural solidarity alive.

Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki participated in the traditional iftar dinner organized by the İzmir Macedonian Immigrants Culture Preservation and Solidarity Association. At the gathering, which reflected the spirit of unity and solidarity of Ramadan, Mayor Eşki distributed food to the citizens and led the iftar prayer.

The iftar program, which saw a large turnout, was also attended by Kamil Okyay Sındır, a former mayor of Bornova who served three terms as İzmir Member of Parliament and CHP General Secretary, CHP Bornova District Chairman Ertürk Çapın, municipal council members, and neighborhood mukhtars (village heads).

Speaking at the iftar program, Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki emphasized that this gathering, which Macedonian immigrants have been maintaining for years, holds a special place in Bornova's cultural life.

Eşki said, “This gathering, which has been going on for 16 years, is one of the most beautiful, enjoyable, enthusiastic, and delicious traditions I've seen in Bornova. We eagerly await your iftar every year, especially to taste your famous wedding soup. These tables are not just about sharing food; they are very valuable gatherings where culture, friendship, and solidarity are kept alive. I hope that future generations will continue this tradition with the same enthusiasm and ownership. The transmission of this beautiful culture from generation to generation is a great asset for Bornova.”

Mazlum Mehmetoğlu, President of the İzmir Macedonian Immigrants Culture Preservation and Solidarity Association, in his speech, drew attention to the spirit of sharing and solidarity during the month of Ramadan.

Mehmetoğlu said, “These gatherings have been bringing together our fellow citizens, friends, and all our neighbors in Bornova for years. We strive to keep our culture of solidarity alive and pass on our traditions to new generations. I would like to thank all our guests, especially our Bornova Mayor, Mr. Ömer Eşki, for honoring us with their presence at our invitation.”
