Free Transport from the Olive Branch to the Table

Bornova Municipality is supporting olive producers by transporting harvested olives from the field to the factory and delivering the produced olive oil to the homes of producers free of charge. Around 150 producers are expected to benefit from the program this year. Mayor Ömer Eşki stated, “We protect our producers’ labor and strengthen Bornova’s agricultural identity.”

To support producers struggling with rising production costs, Bornova Municipality is continuing its “From the Olive Branch to the Table” program, launched last year. Municipal teams collect harvested olives from producers’ fields, transport them to the factory, and deliver the resulting olive oil to their homes at no cost.

Both Incentive and Convenience for Producers

Olives are the second most produced agricultural product in Bornova after cherries. As rising costs place increasing pressure on producers, the municipality’s support provides both economic and moral relief. Olives are transported to the mills chosen by the producers using Bornova Municipality’s vehicles. This year, 150 producers are expected to benefit from the program initiated last year.

Mayor Eşki: “We are protecting our producers’ labor”

Emphasizing that supporting local producers strengthens Bornova’s agricultural identity, Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki said:
“We will continue to stand by our producers to ensure the sustainability of agriculture in Bornova. We provide logistical support so that producers do not leave their olives unharvested and can receive the true value of their labor. In this way, both the producers benefit and Bornova’s residents gain access to higher-quality, locally produced olive oil.”

Producers are satisfied

Melek Belek, a producer from Naldöken, stated that the support has made their work significantly easier:
“We have been harvesting olives for years, but taking them to the mill was difficult. With the support provided by the municipality over the past two years, they pick up our olives from the field and deliver the oil to our home. We thank Ömer Eşki and our municipality.”

Hasan Güleşçi from Kayadibi village expressed similar satisfaction:
“I completed my olive harvest, and our Bornova Municipality helped us tremendously. I thank our Mayor Ömer Eşki and the Agricultural Affairs Directorate, as well as everyone involved.”
