As part of its efforts to promote gender equality, Bornova Municipality held a meeting with representatives of civil society organizations, chambers, and associations in İzmir to discuss the Local Equality Action Plan. During the meeting, the prepared draft plan was evaluated and potential areas for joint action were discussed. Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki emphasized that equality and participation are central principles in municipal governance.

At the meeting held at Dramalılar Mansion, participants were informed about the goals and planned activities of the action plan. A roadmap was laid out to empower disadvantaged groups—especially women—and ensure equal rights and opportunities in society. The work was organized under five key areas: health, education, employment, combating violence against women, and urban services.

Deputy Mayor Bölük: “We aim to create a fairer living environment”

Bornova Deputy Mayor Duygu Bölük, who attended the event, stated:

“As Bornova Municipality, we want to contribute to our citizens from disadvantaged groups and help restore their full civic rights. Within the framework of our municipal policies, we are working to create a more just and inclusive living space for everyone.”

Mayor Ömer Eşki emphasized that Bornova Municipality is committed to promoting gender equality in all areas of life and highlighted the importance of equality and participation as part of the institution’s core values:

“Equality is a prerequisite for democracy and justice. We are working to ensure equality in every aspect of life and have prepared an action plan to guide our efforts. We are determined to create a society in Bornova where women, children, young people, and all individuals have equal opportunities. In pursuing this goal, we also wanted to include the views of professional chambers, NGOs, and associations—who are vital to the fabric of society and democracy.”
