Strawberry Seedling Joy at Dokuz Eylül Primary School

As part of his ongoing environmental initiatives aimed at fostering a love of nature and awareness of production among children from an early age, Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki distributed strawberry seedlings to students at Dokuz Eylül Primary School.

A Nature-Inspired Surprise in Special Pots

Organized by the Bornova Municipality Department of Agricultural Services, the meaningful event featured specially prepared flowerpots and stylish carrying bags designed to make it easier for children to take their seedlings home. The young students were delighted to receive their strawberry seedlings and expressed great excitement throughout the event.

The schoolyard echoed with the joyful voices of children, while teachers and parents showed strong support for Bornova Municipality’s environmentally conscious approach to engaging young generations.

“We Are Planting Hope and Environmental Awareness for the Future”

During the seedling distribution, Mayor Ömer Eşki spent time with the students, speaking with them individually and emphasizing the importance of introducing agricultural awareness at an early age.

“One of our greatest goals is to help our children step away from the digital world, connect with the soil, and grow up appreciating nature. Today, we gifted strawberry seedlings to the students of Dokuz Eylül Primary School—plants they can nurture with their own hands and eventually harvest themselves. As they water and care for their seedlings, they will experience firsthand how much effort and dedication production requires. In fact, today we did not simply distribute plants; we planted a love of nature in our children’s hearts and a green hope for our future. We will continue implementing projects across Bornova’s schools that promote environmental awareness, agriculture, and recycling.”

The children eagerly asked questions about how to water and care for their strawberry plants, and Mayor Eşki shared practical growing tips with them. The event concluded with cheerful moments as students, teachers, and Mayor Eşki posed together for commemorative photographs, proudly holding up their strawberry pots.
