Summer Abundance Begins with 382,000 Seedlings
A Strong Step from Local Seeds to Local Development

Bornova Municipality distributed 220,000 summer vegetable seedlings to citizens at the Ecological City Local Seed Center, promoting urban production while also supporting local producers through the Bayındır Flower Producers Agricultural Development Cooperative. Mayor Ömer Eşki, who attended the distribution ceremony, stated that everyone who cares for the soil is a true producer of the city. A total of 382,000 seedlings are planned to be distributed during the 2026 summer season.

At the large-scale distribution held at the Ecological City Local Seed Center located within the Central Covered Marketplace, 100,000 summer vegetable seedlings (tomatoes, peppers, eggplants) were distributed free of charge to residents of Bornova.

The seedlings were supplied by the Bayındır Flower Producers Agricultural Development Cooperative, encouraging production in the city while supporting local farmers and contributing to rural development.

120,000 Seedlings for Women’s Labor in Urban Gardens

More than 800 women producing in seven different urban gardens operated by Bornova Municipality also received seedling support. A total of 120,000 seedlings were distributed to strengthen women’s role in production.

Throughout the 2026 summer season, a total of 382,000 seedlings are planned to be distributed across urban gardens and to the public.

Mayor Eşki: “Everyone who cares for the soil is a true producer of this city”

Mayor Ömer Eşki personally handed out seedlings and emphasized the importance of production and solidarity with the following words:

“Welcome to this meaningful event where we bring together support for rural areas through cooperatives in Bayındır and connect it with you. Today, we are not just distributing seedlings; we are also growing a culture of production, solidarity, and environmental responsibility. I would like to thank our department, all our staff working in agriculture, and our municipal employees who contributed to this process. But the biggest thanks go to you, who care for nature and are here to produce. Together, we are building a greener and more productive Bornova. I wish it to be fruitful and beneficial for all of us.”
