Library Week Excitement in Bornova
Children learn, the city meets books
A full program from talks to workshops, ending with a grand festival
The Library Week 2026 events organized by Bornova Municipality offered a rich program filled with talks and workshops for children, allowing participants to both learn and have fun. Held with the contributions of the Turkish Librarians’ Association, Sayra & Çınar Foundation, and the Language Association, the program will conclude with a grand festival at Atatürk Library on April 11. Mayor Ömer Eşki emphasized the importance of these events for children’s development and for promoting a culture of libraries.
Library Week 2026 events are being organized by Bornova Municipality between March 30 and April 11, 2026. The program is carried out with the support of the Turkish Librarians’ Association (TKD), Sayra & Çınar Foundation, and the Language Association. Activities designed especially for children have attracted significant interest.
Educational and entertaining activities for children
During the first events of the week, children both learned and enjoyed themselves. In the talk titled “What Does It Have?”, Lale Sanem Şekercioğlu held an interactive session for the 9-year-old age group at Atatürk Library. In the “Philosophy with Children Workshop,” Aydın Şimşek engaged children aged 7–9 in thought-based activities.
In the talk “How Much Turkish? / Savşöz,” Gürsel Gezen, Abdullah Bolulu, and Dürüye Ayvildiz shared valuable insights on Turkish grammar and language learning at the Uğur Mumcu Cultural and Arts Center Multi-Purpose Hall. In the “Thinking Workshop,” Sümeysra Ağaoğlu conducted activities aimed at developing thinking skills for children aged 5–9.
In the “Musicians’ Village Book & Storytelling Session,” Özge Sarıkurt introduced children to the stories of musicians. In the “Dream Time Tales” event, Sıla Topçam held a storytelling session for children aged 8–10. Registrations for the event were taken via the phone number 0 232 999 29 29 / 2233.
Grand festival on April 11: Gathering at Atatürk Library
The Library Week events will conclude with the “Sayra-Çınar Foundation 62nd Library Week Festival,” to be held at Atatürk Library on Saturday, April 11, 2026, between 14:00 and 17:00. The festival will feature enjoyable workshops, fun games, a Zumba Kids activity, face painting, surprise gifts, and delicious treats.
Mayor Eşki: “Generations that grow up with books will enlighten our future”
Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki emphasized the importance of introducing children to books at an early age, stating:
“Libraries are not only places where books are read, but also centers of learning and sharing. Raising our children in such environments is the greatest investment in our future.”
