La Fontaine Mansion is located across from St. Mary Magdalene Church, next to Murat Mansion. The first known owner of the building is James La Fontaine (1881 - 1930), who established the league system in Turkish football.

James La Fontaine was the son of Blanche Magdalene Whittall, the granddaughter of Charlton Whittall, who bought the Büyük Ev in 1836. James La Fontaine, who also owned the building known as the Well House, which is currently under renovation as of 2015 and which houses the EÜ Women's Issues Application and Research Center and the EÜ İzmir Application and Research Center, passed away after his wife Clara Lillian La Fontaine (Keyzer) and their children Rhoda and Rodney Audrey. The mansion was purchased from the family in 1941 by Clara La Fontaine's niece Ruby Gladys Whittall (De Zandonati). The mansion, which was purchased from Ruby Gladys Whittall in 1963 due to the building needs of Ege University, is currently used as the Ege University Atatürk Principles and Revolution History Application and Research Center.
