Bornova Municipality recently hosted an important international meeting in collaboration with Pi Youth Association, with which it has been conducting joint projects under a cooperation protocol. Employees from 10 different organizations working in the fields of youth and civil society in Estonia were welcomed in Bornova. The Estonian guests were accompanied by international volunteers of the Pi Youth Association. The program, attended by Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki, offered an inspiring experience for both youth workers and volunteers.

A Visit Rooted in History, Guided by a Youth Vision

The visit began at Yeşilova Mound, known as the oldest known settlement area in İzmir. Participants were given detailed information about the archaeological excavations carried out at the site, the artifacts uncovered, and the reconstructions of Neolithic-era living spaces. The program continued with a visit to the Altındağ Sports Complex, where the sports infrastructure and opportunities provided to the youth by Bornova Municipality were introduced. Attendees learned firsthand about the municipality's youth services through on-site observations.

Engaging with Civil Society

Another key stop was the Altındağ Atatürk Civil Society Organizations Campus. Participants were informed about the local NGOs operating at the site and had the opportunity to exchange experiences. Mayor Ömer Eşki joined the program at this point, sharing the municipality’s vision on youth, culture, and international relations.

Mayor Eşki emphasized the importance of taking part in international organizations, saying:

The final stop of the program was Abide-i Hürriyet Square, one of Bornova’s symbolic landmarks. Participants were informed about the park's historical and symbolic significance.
