At the June Municipal Council meeting chaired by Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki, important decisions shaping the district’s future were approved. The council decided to replace the municipality’s existing concrete batching plant, which is insufficient to meet current needs, in order to improve the quality of road and infrastructure works. The old plant will be donated to another public institution in need. Additionally, a cooperation protocol with the Goethe-Institut İzmir Branch was approved to develop joint projects in the fields of culture, arts, and youth, enabling access to international funding opportunities.

The Bornova Municipality June Ordinary Council Meeting was held at the council chamber of the Nevzat Kavalar Cultural Center under the chairmanship of Mayor Ömer Eşki. During the meeting, two significant agenda items that will contribute to the transformation of Bornova were approved following the reports submitted by the relevant commissions.

A New Era in Infrastructure: A Modern Concrete Plant Is Coming

Committed to providing lasting and high-quality solutions to the district’s physical needs, the council also decided to modernize the municipality’s production facilities. Since the current concrete batching plant no longer fully meets Bornova’s requirements, the purchase of a new facility was approved. The new plant will improve concrete quality and make a substantial contribution to infrastructure and construction works across both Bornova and İzmir.

The existing plant, which has reached the end of its economic lifespan, will be dismantled and donated to another public institution that requires and requests it.

A Bridge Between Bornova and Europe Through Culture and Funding

Under the first approved agenda item, a comprehensive cooperation protocol between Bornova Municipality and the Goethe-Institut İzmir Branch was officially endorsed.

Through this protocol, the parties will collaborate in thematic areas such as language education, culture and arts, sustainability, social integration, youth initiatives, and European Union grant projects. Joint project applications will be submitted to benefit more effectively from national and international funding sources, maximizing the local social impact of these initiatives.

Commenting on the decisions adopted by the council, Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki emphasized that the municipality is mobilizing all available resources to provide residents with the quality services they deserve.

Mayor Eşki stated:

“Our fellow citizens expect investment, lasting services, and strong projects from us. We are preparing to launch a comprehensive road and infrastructure campaign throughout our district. However, the capacity of our existing facilities and equipment was insufficient for these ambitious goals. With the modern concrete plant we will establish, we will both reduce costs and improve concrete quality, enabling us to deliver projects worthy of Bornova and İzmir.

At the same time, thanks to the protocol signed with the Goethe-Institut, we will attract international funding to Bornova and accelerate our culture, arts, and youth projects. Despite challenging economic conditions and all the difficulties we face, we will continue to produce, invest, and work for Bornova.”
