A Timeless Exhibition by Bornova's Photography Students

The exhibition “In Homer’s Bornova”, prepared by participants of Bornova Municipality’s photography courses, opened in Büyükpark to the delight of art lovers. The exhibition features 80 photographs taken by 20 students aged between 14 and 70, blending the city’s past and present with a poetic narrative. Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki emphasized that the exhibition brings Bornova’s cultural heritage to life through art.

Organized by participants of Bornova Municipality’s Hobby and Skills Development Courses, the exhibition “In Homer’s Bornova” is displayed in front of the Ayfer Feray Open-Air Theater in Büyükpark. The 80 works captured through the lenses of 20 photographers form a compelling visual story that reflects the soul of Bornova.

A Meaningful Opening Talk by Altan Altın

At the opening, Bornova-based researcher and author Altan Altın gave a talk highlighting Homer as the spiritual essence of Anatolia, İzmir, and Bornova.

“Homer was undoubtedly from İzmir. In The Iliad and The Odyssey, he described the location of Troy from İzmir. The caves in the Homer Valley were visited like sacred places until the first half of the 20th century,”
Altın said, shedding light on Homer’s historical ties to Bornova.

Mayor Eşki: “Art in Bornova is a bridge to the past”

Stating that keeping Homer’s ancient legacy alive is not just a duty but also a source of inspiration, Mayor Ömer Eşki said:

“This exhibition unites Bornova’s cultural richness with a contemporary artistic vision. Seeing the city through the eyes of our citizens strengthens our connection to both our past and our future.”
