A New Era in Cleanliness with Larger-Capacity Containers

Bornova Municipality has put 325 new 1,100-liter plastic waste containers into service to strengthen cleaning services across the district. Replacing older and smaller containers, the new-generation units increase both waste capacity and hygiene standards. Mayor Ömer Eşki stated that municipal teams are working around the clock to ensure a cleaner and healthier environment for Bornova, emphasizing that investments in modern sanitation infrastructure will continue.

The containers, assembled at the Department of Cleaning Services depot, were first deployed in the Evka-3 and Küçükpark areas, replacing outdated and lower-capacity units. Designed to meet the demands of Bornova’s growing population, vibrant social life, and dynamic urban structure, the project aims to improve waste management capacity while creating a more modern cleaning infrastructure.

Mayor Ömer Eşki thanked municipal teams working day and night to keep the district clean and said:

“Bornova is one of İzmir’s busiest districts, with its universities, industrial zones, commercial centers, and active living spaces. We are continuing our efforts to build a strong and modern cleaning infrastructure worthy of this intensity. With our new-generation containers, we will both reduce visual pollution and provide our citizens with a more hygienic environment. Our teams will continue working in the field 24/7 for a clean, healthy, and livable Bornova.”

Nonstop Cleaning Operations Across 45 Neighborhoods

Teams from the Cleaning Services Department carry out regular cleaning operations in 45 neighborhoods, covering 4,002 streets and 17 industrial zones throughout the district. Cleaning services continue uninterrupted 24 hours a day in three shifts: 07:00–15:00, 15:00–23:00, and 23:00–07:00.

Every day, waste is collected from 10,186 containers, while an average of 650 tons of household waste and 35 tons of bulky waste are processed. Main roads and streets are cleaned both manually and with 10 street-sweeping vehicles. In busy areas such as Küçükpark and Süvari Street, a special “garbage taxi” service is also provided.

A Large-Scale Team of 320 Personnel and 70 Vehicles

Cleaning operations across Bornova are carried out by a strong team consisting of 320 personnel and 70 vehicles. In addition, regular cleaning services are provided for places of worship, while vacuum truck services ensure rapid response to infrastructure-related needs.

The municipality plans to expand the new container system to additional neighborhoods across Bornova in the coming period.
