A warm gathering at the Gülşah Durbay Youth Center

Bornova Belediyesi hosted an iftar dinner at the Gülşah Durbay Gençlik Merkezi, which was named after Gülşah Durbay. Ömer Eşki also attended the program and spent the evening with university students, saying, “We are always by the side of our young people.”

Bornova Municipality organized an iftar program for university students at the Gülşah Durbay Youth Center, which was opened at the end of February and named in memory of Şehzadeler Mayor Gülşah Durbay, the first female mayor of Manisa, who passed away at the age of 37.

During the program attended by Mayor Ömer Eşki, students and officials gathered around the same table. Eşki sat and chatted with the students, and after the iftar, young people spent enjoyable moments playing guitar and singing songs together.

Mayor Eşki: “We are always with our youth”

Mayor Ömer Eşki emphasized that young people are one of the city’s greatest strengths and said they are working to ensure that university students do not feel alone.

“Creating spaces that support both the social and academic lives of our young people is very important for us. The Gülşah Durbay Youth Center is a product of this approach. Sharing the blessings of Ramadan at the same table with our young people today brings us great happiness.”

A new meeting point for young people

Located in the Ergene Neighborhood, at the entrance of the Historic Bornova Bazaar, the Gülşah Durbay Youth Center has a total of 250 square meters of indoor space across three floors.

The center includes a dining hall, meeting areas, a free laundry service, a 3D printer workshop, a green-screen studio, and both silent and collaborative study areas. Designed to meet both the social and academic needs of young people, the center is expected to become an important meeting point for students in Bornova.
