This building, located next to the Great House (today E.Ü. Rectorate), is known among the Bornova people as the "Well House" due to the well of the horse-drawn cart right next to it, or as the "English Club" due to its use during the Levantine period. The building, which was called the "Well Pavilion" (1) at the time it was built, was the center of Levantine social life as the "English Club" in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The oldest recorded owner of this house is James La Fontaine. James La Fontaine was also the owner of the building located on the opposite corner of Suphi Koyuncuoğlu High School and currently used as the E.Ü. Atatürk Principles and Revolution History Application and Research Center. After James La Fontaine's death, both buildings were transferred to his wife Clara Lilian La Fontaine and their children Rhoda, Rodney and Audrey. The mansion, which was purchased for the use of Ege University in 1966, was used for a period by E.Ü. The building used as the Women's Issues Application and Research Center and E.Ü. İzmir Application and Research Center was restored in 2015. The building will be used as the Ege University International Relations Coordination Office as of 2025.
