Heartfelt Tribute to Atatürk from Bornova’s Little Hearts

10 November 2025

The Founder of the Republic of Türkiye, Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, was commemorated in Bornova with an emotional ceremony marking the 87th anniversary of his passing. Children attending Bornova Municipality’s Play and Activity Centers recited poems, sang songs, and placed red carnations in front of Atatürk’s portrait to honor his memory.

The ceremony, held at the Nevzat Kavalar Cultural Center, brought together children aged 3 to 6 from Bornova Municipality’s Play and Activity Centers.

The young participants took the stage holding Atatürk’s photographs, where they recited poems, performed songs, and presented special choreographies. As they placed red carnations in front of Atatürk’s portrait on stage, they created emotional moments for the audience. Families proudly watched their children perform in an atmosphere filled with love and admiration.

“Atatürk is the guide of science, reason, and conscience”

Speaking at the ceremony, Yağmur Yurdakul Özkan, CHP Spokesperson of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, CHP Group Deputy Chairperson, and Acting Mayor of Bornova, emphasized the guiding importance of Atatürk’s legacy:

“Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of our Republic, achieved countless reforms, victories, and principles within his 57 years of life. He did not leave us a dogmatic heritage, but rather taught us to walk in the light of science and reason. He gave us women’s rights, human rights, and civic awareness. Following in his footsteps, we will continue to raise our children under the light of the Republic, science, and conscience. We will strive to be individuals worthy of him. We remember our Great Leader with gratitude, love, and respect.”
