Strong Messages Against Dating Violence from Psychological and Legal Perspectives

At a panel discussion organized by Bornova Municipality at Dramalılar Mansion, healthy relationships and dating violence were addressed from multiple perspectives. The event, attended by experts in their respective fields, highlighted the importance of setting boundaries in relationships and examined the legal consequences of dating violence for women.

“Setting Boundaries Is Not a Breakup, It Is Self-Protection”

In the first session titled “On Healthy Relationships: Let’s Not Meet Again,” Clinical Psychologist Ü. Aslı Macit evaluated healthy communication, personal boundaries, and the psychological dimensions of separation processes in relationships.

“In a healthy relationship, being able to say ‘no’ is not a source of guilt but a sign of strength. Setting boundaries is not a lack of love; it is an expression of self-respect,” Macit stated, delivering important messages particularly to young women.

The Legal Reality of Dating Violence

In the second part of the program, Attorney Necmiye Ece Uncu Danyıldız presented on “The Legal Face of Dating Violence on Women,” explaining the definition, types, and legal framework of dating violence.

“Violence does not begin with marriage; persistent, coercive, and controlling behaviors that start during the dating period are also legally recognized as violence,” Danyıldız emphasized, informing participants about women’s legal rights and available legal remedies.

A Strong Step Toward Social Awareness

Bringing together psychological and legal perspectives, the discussion provided participants with an empowering and informative atmosphere, reinforcing that they are not alone. The event aimed to raise awareness about healthy relationships and strengthen societal sensitivity against dating violence.
