Mayor Eşki visits healthcare workers on March 14 Medical Day

Ömer Eşki visited the Özgül Gündüz Sağlık Köyü as part of March 14 Medical Day and celebrated the day with the staff of the Health Affairs Directorate, presenting them with flowers. During the visit, information was also shared about the planned “Health Support Card” project, which aims to allow citizens to benefit from private healthcare services under more affordable conditions. Eşki stated that efforts will continue to facilitate access to healthcare services.

Mayor Ömer Eşki visited the Bornova Municipality Özgül Gündüz Health Village to celebrate Medical Day with the staff of the Health Affairs Directorate.

During the visit, Mayor Eşki spoke individually with healthcare workers and presented flowers to the staff to commemorate the day. Information was also provided about the “Health Support Card” project that the municipality plans to implement. Uğur Nazlıoğlu, President of DİSK Genel‑İş Sendikası İzmir Branch No. 7, also attended the visit.

“Access to healthcare is becoming increasingly difficult”

In his speech, Mayor Eşki emphasized the historical importance of March 14, noting that the origins of Medical Day date back to the Mekteb‑i Tıbbiye established during the Ottoman period. He pointed out that this institution was not only a center for medical education but also a place where progressive ideas emerged.

Eşki also stated that access to healthcare services has become increasingly difficult today. Despite the construction of large city hospitals, many citizens are still forced to turn to private healthcare institutions, and the cost of healthcare services has become a serious burden for citizens.

“Discounts will be provided through the Health Support Card”

Explaining that a new initiative will be implemented to facilitate citizens’ access to healthcare services, Mayor Eşki provided details about the Health Support Card prepared by Bornova Municipality.

He stated that through this card, citizens will be able to benefit from services provided by private healthcare institutions at discounted rates according to agreements made with them.

“I believe that all healthcare services should be free. However, under current conditions, we are introducing this card so that citizens can at least receive private healthcare services at more affordable prices.”

Eşki also emphasized that home visits and on-site services provided by healthcare workers help meet many important needs of citizens and that these services are greatly appreciated by the residents of Bornova.

Nazlıoğlu: “Healthcare workers perform a very sacred duty”

Speaking during the visit, Uğur Nazlıoğlu stated that healthcare professionals perform a vital duty for society and congratulated all healthcare workers on Medical Day. He emphasized that professions related to human health carry great responsibility and that healthcare workers provide extremely valuable services to society.
