The newly opening Youth Center will be named after the late Mayor of Şehzadeler

At Bornova Municipality’s first municipal council meeting of 2026, it was unanimously approved that the new Youth Center to be opened in Ergene Neighborhood will be named after the late Mayor of Manisa’s Şehzadeler district, Gülşah Durbay, who passed away recently. Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki emphasized that the decision represents a meaningful example of loyalty that adds value to both young people and local governance. During the meeting, members of the Audit Commission were also elected by secret ballot.

Bornova Municipality held its first municipal council meeting of 2026 at the Nevzat Kavalar Cultural Center Council Hall. At the January Council Meeting, chaired by Bornova Deputy Mayor Barbaros Taşer, it was unanimously decided to give the name of the late Manisa Şehzadeler Mayor Gülşah Durbay to the Youth Center planned to be opened on 545th Street in Ergene Neighborhood under the Department of Social Assistance Affairs.

Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki described the decision as a profound and meaningful act of loyalty, stating:
“Gülşah Durbay will be remembered as a local administrator who touched the lives of young people, internalized social municipalism, and inspired many through her work. Keeping her name alive in a youth center in Bornova will add value both to our young people and to our perspective on local governance.”

A youth-oriented center with a meaningful name

The new Youth Center will host projects aimed at young people in the fields of education, culture, arts, and social solidarity. With this decision, the center is intended to be not only a physical space but also a place that carries memory and values.

Audit Commission members elected

During the meeting, members of the Bornova Municipality Audit Commission were also elected by secret ballot. Nihat Yağbasan, Ahmet Tokem, and Melek Kartal from the CHP Group, and Musa Çevik and Adem Kasacı from the AKP Group, were elected as commission members.
