It is estimated that the structure known as the Green Mansion was built by D.A. Bardisbanian, a merchant from Izmir who was involved in import and export business in the last quarter of the 19th century. Like several other neighboring mansions, it was located opposite the Bornova train station, at the beginning of the agricultural lands opening to the Bornova plain. After the Gasparian Family, who took over the mansion from the Bardisbanian Family, who are said to have migrated to France in the late 19th century, left Izmir, the mansion was expropriated and used for the Bornova School of Agriculture. In 1949, it was transferred to the Treasury of the Republic of Turkey and in 1990, it was transferred to the Ege University. The building served as the Department of Agricultural Management and Economics at the Faculty of Agriculture of Ege University between 1955 and 1972, with the establishment of Ege University in 1955. After its restoration in 1986, the mansion served as a guesthouse for high-level visitors to the University for a while, and after restorations in 1993 and 1995, it served as a cafeteria and restaurant for the University's academic and administrative staff and students for a while.
