5 Tons of Wheat to Support Local Farmers

Bornova Municipality has begun harvesting the "Aegean Star Triticale" wheat planted at its Yakaköy Natural Agriculture Farm. Approximately 5 tons of wheat are expected to be collected and will be distributed free of charge to poultry producers in the district, providing much-needed support to local agriculture and livestock. Mayor Ömer Eşki emphasized that agriculture is a fundamental necessity and pledged to continue implementing projects that encourage production.

In the fall of 2024, Bornova Municipality sowed Aegean Star Triticale wheat on 15,000 square meters of municipal land in Yakaköy. This year, the harvest is expected to yield around 5 tons. Both the wheat and the straw will be distributed at no cost to poultry producers operating in the district. This initiative aims to provide healthy feed while reducing input costs for small-scale farmers.

Eşki: “Agriculture is not backwardness; it is the foundation of life”

Taking the wheel of the harvester alongside local farmers and neighborhood heads, Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki stated:

“The greatest revolution of humankind was the invention of agriculture—it is the foundation of settled life and nutrition. We do not see this as backwardness, but as a basic need. By distributing around 5 tons—perhaps even more—of wheat to our poultry producers, we are doing our part to revitalize agriculture in our rural neighborhoods. I thank our Agricultural Directorate, local leaders, and municipal council members who have helped transform our rural areas back into vibrant villages. As Bornova Municipality, we will continue to support agricultural life with our own resources.”
